DJ Psikyo Maiko
The name ?
It comes from 2 things I love, old skool shmups (Psikyo make some amazing shmups) and Geishas (Maiko is a young Geisha in training)
Mixes
I try wherever possible to beatmatch tracks together, without this DJing is merely CD-swapping. so here are a few of my beatmatched mixes, recorded for posterity.
DJ Psikyo Maiko EBM Megamix
A 30 min mix of some of my favourite "EBM" tracks. Note the term EBM for this context is taken from the Goth derivation of the term. I'm more than abundantly aware that it is not the original meaning of the term EBM, and is yet another mislabelling by a scene ignorant of other musical styles and their histories.
Strange Preparation
A simple mix from De/Visions's Strange Preparation (Mesh remix) into the Club Mix of Not Prepared by Mesh. I just like how this turned out. I'll tend to record little pairs like this then DJ from them rather than pre-mix/plan an entire set, as this gives a lot more flexibility when performing live.
Mashups
OK this is where I really have fun, and possibly irritate a few overly sober punters in the process. For anyone living under a rock for the first few years of the new millenuim, a mashup is taking 2 tracks and working them together into 1 track, for example the music from one track with the vocals from another.
So here are my mashups. If you play them in your clubs please credit me properly.
Sisters Of Mercy vs Run DMC - Dominion (Mother Fucker)
Oh boy does this annoy the goths, which is always funny to see... so you take the rapping and drum beat from "It's Like That" by Run DMC and lob it over "Dominion (Mother Russia)" by The Sisters Of Mercy... Result ?
Choon!
